Femmy Update ~ The Party

photo

We will leave all the official feedback from the Femmy Awards Gala held last night at Cipriani’s to the home page wrap.  You will be able to see it all;  and for sure with much more professional photos. But we attended this stellar party last night – hats off to Karen Bromley and Barbara Lipton who co-chaired the event. The preparations were flawless and it showed,  so we decided to give you a Femmy wrap up appetizer.

First and foremost, were the terrific design submissions by the 6 finalists competing for scholarship money and to the winner, a free all expense paid trip to Paris Mode donated by Eurovet andCurvexpo. The results were an exceptional body of work guided by FIT mentor Alexandra Armillas and selected by the Saig committee.

Personally, we were caught up in the great networking opportunities with 600+ attendees.  But nothing makes the party more grand than the food, drink, flowers and music.

Without a doubt, Roz stole the stage with her brief acceptance speech for The President’s Award.  A perfect combination of her wit and wisdom, it was a hard act to follow.

And Seth Morris’ speech confirmed the stature of a great industry leader. Maybe we are biased as they both are on the board, but their authenticity shined through. They give The Underfashion Club the character it deserves.

Stay tuned for a total review. We just wanted to give you this quick flash while the sheen was still bright.  Ellen & Camille

Roslyn joined the Underfashion Club in 1969, when it was an organization for women only and the membership was less than 30. She received a lifetime achievement Femmy in 1997.  Past officer, board member, co-chair of the program committee, and an active participant of the SAIG committee.  Born on the Lower East side, as were both of her parents; growing up and studying design at a Brooklyn high school (tough Brooklyn girl).  Her birthday is October 31, 1924, our Halloween witch.

Roslyn graduated in 1941, and worked at Vogue magazine until 1946, when she answered an ad in WWD and came into the industry as a designer of Lady Duff Trousseau Lingerie.  Started her own contract studio in April of 1954 (60th anniversary coming up).  Started the studio as Roslyn Harte Lingerie Originals, limiting to 3 non-competitive clients at one time.

Roslyn is very involved in the Intimate Apparel Square Club HUG awards, benefiting the pediatrics of RUSK NYU Medical Center.

Some of her favorite career highlights include:
