LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: NORMAN COLLIER The 2017 FEMMY Awards, presented by The Underfashion Club, Inc., the intimate apparel industry charitable organization dedicated to education, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 31st and will take place at Cipriani 42nd Street, New York City. Honorees include: Retailer: Aerie accepted by Jennifer Foyle, Aerie Global Brand President; Manufacturer: Cupid Foundations, Inc. accepted by David Welsch, CEO, President and Marilyn Welsch, Secretary/Treasurer; Supplier: Tianhai Lace Co., Ltd., accepted by Ning Yi Shen, General Manager; Innovation Award: Under Armour, Inc. accepted by Lisa Struble, VP, Technical Design and Kelly Cortina, VP, Women’s Apparel, Run & Accessories; and Lifetime Achievement Award: Norman Collier, Managing Director, Stretchline (UK) Limited. The FEMMY Awards honor those individuals and companies that have significantly contributed to the Intimate Apparel Industry and its growth. The Gala is recognized as one of the premier events in the Intimate Apparel Industry, and is the fundraising vehicle that enables The Underfashion Club to support its extensive Scholarship, Awards, Internship and Grants (SAIG) programs. These efforts bring to life the Underfashion Club’s credo of “Education today for a better industry tomorrow.” The 2017 Femmy will proudly host the 14th Annual Student Design Contest featuring the designs of Fashion Institute of Technology students, with the contest theme of “Athletic Allure.” Contest winners will receive cash awards presented by SAIG Co-Chairs Suzanne Beck and Clelia Parisi. The Annual Student Design Contest is an integral part of The Underfashion Club’s mission to help educate, influence and attract new talent for the future of the industry. The design contest is being sponsored by Clover Group International Ltd., Regina Miracle International (Holdings) Ltd., and Stretchline Holdings Ltd. “It’s with great excitement that we announce the date and honorees for the 2017 FEMMY AWARDS. As part of its commitment to “Education today for a better industry tomorrow,” the Underfashion Club has chosen four students from LIM College: Where Business Meets Fashion to receive scholarships for 2017. LIM College was founded in 1939 by Maxwell F. Marcuse as the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, at the request of retailers who wanted a school that would teach students about the fashion business and merchandising. read more

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the annual Holiday Party of the Underfashion Club on Tuesday, December 6th! It was our first time celebrating the holidays at The Harvard Club in Manhattan and it was great! Club members and friends mingled, drank, dined, and danced to a fantastic mix of popular songs fitting to the season, spun by the talented DJ Tom! The Photo Booth was a festive touch, bringing friends together for silly poses with holiday-themed props. We’re glad you all enjoyed it!

Underfashion Club President Victor Vega extended a special thank you to long-time members, contributors, and Santa’s little helpers, who collected 180 wrapped presents from generous guests for the annual gift drive held for the children of Women In Need, Inc, a New York based charity. Dozens of exhibiting mills and hundreds of companies shared their latest fabrics with buyers and industry professionals at The Tunnel in New York on September 22nd, 2016. The latest intimate apparel style trends were on display, sharing the great variety in tastes among today’s lingerie brands and their customers.

The UNDERFASHION CLUB held its most recent program event, “The Sexy Side of 3D Imaging” with Lectra on September 13, 2016 at the Cutting Room. Lectra’s fashion industry expert and director of business development, Luis Velazquez, discussed how 3D technology will impact the future of the fashion industry. This world renowned company is an industry-leader that’s been training today’s fashion students with cutting edge technology.  Lectra has also collaborated with lingerie brands and schools in Paris to award student designers with internships for the technical and aesthetic excellence of their work. As a company, they aim to move the industry forward and help push the next generation of fashion leaders.

Designing lingerie is an intricate art, involving up to 50 components that require such careful precision that many prototypes must be created in order to achieve the right fit. This delicate and demanding process can take a lot of time, and the cost can be difficult to balance, especially in the intimate apparel industry. 3D technology can cut time from the development cycle, helping designers create better products faster. read more
