The SAIG members, (11 dedicated committee members) met at FIT on Wed, April 23rd to interview 15 students from the Fashion Design Department.  These students presented themselves, talked about their goals and aspirations and presented their portfolios and garments.  This time there was one Production major and the rest of the students were from Design.  Professor Alexandra Armillas has done a remarkable job in helping to bring about this annual night of interviews for possible scholarships to the FIT students. read more

I was delighted to attend the “FACES AND PLACES IN FASHION” Lecture Series presented by the Office of Alumni and Faculty Relations at FIT on May 5, 2014.  The distinguished panel of lingerie professionals was moderated by FIT Alumna Karen Bromley, Principal of the Bromley Group.

Most of the panel is on the UNDERFASHION CLUB’S Board of Directors, but also includes graduates of FIT and other top leaders from the world of Intimate Apparel.  They gave detailed information about the Intimate Apparel industry and also a peek into each of their extensive backgrounds. read more

The 2014 Femmy’s are less than a month away and we wanted to share with you a series of updates about this stellar event whose major purpose is to raise scholarship money for  students of the Lingerie Industry.  So first and foremost, the fashion contest staged by  F.I.T. design finalists each year.  Under the mentorship of Professor Alexandra Armillas, the SAIG committee has re-focused the goals from the ethereal to the practical. This year’s theme “Shaping The Future” is all about modern control shapewear. The six finalists will compete for $10,000 of scholarship money with their designs ranging from very embellished to strappy and sexy, to ultra-minimalist.  But all the contestants have added a fresh young twist.  Professor Armillas coaches them to new levels of technical skills and creativity.  This year they will be asked to demonstrate the practical side of development with attention to costing and production realities using a $400 allowance for materials.  All of the finalists must do this project while completing their full time course load.  Guests will vote at the dinner for first, second and third place on Feb 4 after meeting each student and viewing their creative efforts.
