With this year’s theme of Modern Adaptive Marketable Design, my goal was to create a garment that was functionally adaptive but with visually concealed accommodations. To me, advocating for inclusivity and adaptivity means to give to those who may need accommodations the opportunity to wear clothing that visually looks unvarying from the rest of the market. I believe that everyone should have access to self expression through fashion and the opportunity to feel the confidence and security that fashion can provide. The inspiration for my design is Venus de Milo, which is based on Venus, the goddess of love, beauty and desire. While the sculpture is missing both arms, this only adds to its captivating aura. The sculpture has become a timeless representation of beauty in culture. I was inspired by the romantic aspects of the goddess of love and therefore wanted my design to feel delicate and fairy-tale like. My garment features a slip with appliqué lace and includes a hidden magnetic closure and non-slip elastic straps, making dress and removal of the garment more accessible.
Abbie-Grace Jones
My name is Abbie-Grace Jones. I was born and raised in North Georgia, but moved to New York in 2020 to pursue my dreams of being a designer. Set on pursuing a career in bridal design, I was taken by surprise when I discovered my love for designing lingerie. I adore all of the intricate details that go into designing intimate apparel and the power it holds in making women feel confident. My love of vintage fashion and film plays a large role in my design process. I hope to soon show the intimate apparel industry what I have to offer as a young designer and to push the boundaries in the current market by experimenting with sustainable textiles and advocating for inclusivity.
