Materials Used
The two main fabrics that comprise the garment pieces are stretch floral lace and donated sheer jersey knit. I decided to use the sheer jersey as the main fabric because of how soft and translucent it was. The fabric provides both comfort and sexiness to the garment. Paired with the lace, the garment is meant to make the wearer feel as if they were having a relaxing picnic in a beautiful garden.
An assortment of elastics was used as finishes for the many seams and edges. Ruffle elastic was used on the garter belt to add fun and flair. Grosgrain elastic was used to clean-finish the bottom edge of the bralette and the top edge of the panty. Pico elastic was stitched along the leg opening to mimic the edges of a flower petal and tie in the three pieces as one.
Halter Bralette
This floral lace halter bralette features a gold centerpiece ring that is attached to two adjustable elastic straps that can be moved from one shoulder to another. The adjustable straps were made to adapt to every person’s needs. They can be separated to be on both shoulders or moved around to be on one shoulder. On each of the side seams, there are magnetic snaps that make it easier for disabled people to take them on and off. The elastic band is zigzagged and turned on the bottom of the bra to create a stable and comfortable structure for support.
Garter belt
A key detail of the structured garter belt is the front closure. The front closure consists of two overlapping plackets made out of donated spandex fabric that has been hand-stitched and magnetic snaps for simple and easy removal. Each seam on the garter is covered with elastic and has metal boning inserted inside it so that the garter belt stays stable and structured. The side seam panels are made of lace to add a delicate and soft aspect to the garter. The main body of the garter consists of sheer jersey and a ruffle trim elastic is zig-zagged onto the top and bottom edge of the garment piece to add a fun aspect to the garter.
Flutter Panty
The flutter panty is fully composed of sheer jersey fabric. At each side seam, there is a magnetic snap at the top of the seam. This allows the wearer the ability to easily put on and take off their panty without lifting a leg. Apart from the magnetic snap, the rest of the side seam was left open to keep the panty light and airy. The leg opening was clean-finished with a simple pico elastic.
Vickitora Jean Louis
My name is Vickitora Jean Louis and I am an up-and-coming intimate apparel designer. Ever since I was young, I loved to express my personality through the thing that I create. My interest in fashion started when I was in middle school when I had the chance to express myself through clothing. At the age of thirteen, I decided to enroll in The High School of Fashion Industries as a fashion major. It was there that I was able to expand my knowledge of fashion and encourage my passion for the subject to grow. In my last year of high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. I enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2019. Throughout my years at FIT, I learned an enormous amount. It was hard, but fun and satisfying. My desire to learn about the structure and function of undergarments piqued my interest in intimate apparel during my third year of college. I view intimate apparel as something that can boost people’s confidence and make them feel the best. Ever since declaring intimate apparel as my specialization, my goal has been to integrate intimates into everyday wear so everyone can feel their best at all times.
