2016 FEMMY Awards Gala: Recap

, ,

The Underfashion Club, Inc. hosted the 2016 FEMMY Awards Gala on February 2nd at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City, which was attended by intimate apparel industry executives from all over the world. In addition to record-breaking attendance, the event raised approximately $600,000 for this 501(c)(3) charitable organization and its mission of “Education today for a better industry tomorrow.”

This year’s special host was the stunningly glamorous burlesque star and fashion icon, Dita Von Teese. Her personal warmth and innate grace made the evening a memorable event for both the award recipients and enthusiastic audience.

Honorees included Amazon Fashion, accepted by Meredith Bunche, DMM Women’s Basics, Best Pacific / New Horizon, accepted by CEO Kane Haitao Zhang, and Richard Leeds International, Inc., accepted by Marcia & Richard Leeds.

Three special awards were given out. Lane Bryant / Cacique received the Innovation Award, accepted by CEO Linda Heasley. Martin Trust, Founder of Mast Industries received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Francesca Spinetta, Co-Owner and Editorial Director of The Best of INTIMA magazines, received the President’s Award.

The 13th Annual Student Design Contest featured the work of Fashion Design students (with a specialization in intimate apparel) from the Fashion Institute of Technology. This year’s theme was “Artists as Muse,” and the six finalists drew their inspiration from either Georgia O’Keefe or Frida Kahlo. FEMMY Gala attendees voted for their favorite garment, and the winning designs were announced that night.

Special thanks to the design contest sponsors Clover Group International, Regina Miracle International and Stretchline Holdings for providing the cash awards that were presented to the FIT contestants.  In addition, Eurovet and Curvexpo generously provided roundtrip airfare, accommodations and complimentary admission to this July’s Interfiliere Paris/Salon International de la Lingerie for the winner of the Student Design Contest.
