Powerful Sensuality
My design embodies the essence of feeling good in your own skin— alluring and powerful. To achieve this, I aimed to merge contrasting elegance with inherent power, while maintaining a feminine touch. I achieved this by incorporating a mixture of softer fabrics like lace and combining them with shinier and stiffer fabrics like latex.
For the bra portion of my design, I repurposed latex leggings, cutting and shaping them into bra cups. The latex formed the accents that highlight the bra/bust shape. Subsequently, I adorned a section of the bra with lace, leaving space for the latex to peek through to highlight the duality of femininity and power. The lace also acted as a base to apply flowers later, continuing that touch of femininity. To reinforce the midsection, I utilized a cotton dress as a stabilizer piece. This helped the bra top have more structure and hold, making it more comfortable on the body. Finally, the flowers adorning the bra were meticulously crafted from a combination of stretch PJs, a white t-shirt, and dyed lace. I used all three fabrics once they were dyed and had them laser-cut into specific flower shapes to achieve rose-like and other flower shapes.
As for the panty, I utilized lace fabric as the foundation and incorporated strap details from the latex leggings. Additionally, I integrated a liner gusset piece using the cotton dress fabric for enhanced breathability and comfort. Once again, I employed a blend of stretch PJs, a white t-shirt, and dyed lace to fashion the flowers adorning the panty. The culmination is a fusion of power and femininity, designed to evoke confidence, beauty, and empowerment in the wearer.
Lisbeth Abreu
I was born and raised in New York City, and my journey into the world of fashion began at the age of 8, inspired by my grandmother, who worked in a clothing factory. Assisting her in sewing dresses for our family was the first step in my design education. As I grew older, I attended the High School of Art and Design, where I continued to develop my skills and nurture my love for fashion. In my chosen field, I aspire to open my own business one day, creating clothing that makes people feel special and empowered. To achieve this goal, I plan to gain experience by working alongside professionals in the industry, absorbing knowledge and refining my craft. My influences in fashion include renowned designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Iris Van Herpen, Alexander McQueen, and Dior. However, the most significant influence has come from the strong women in my family. As a first-generation American, I am deeply grateful for the opportunities they have provided me, showcasing the power and resilience of women, shaping my identity as a designer and fueling my determination to succeed.
