CURVE NEW YORK
by Camille Block

It was great to be back at the CURVE NEW YORK show that ran from July 31 through August 2, 2022. This time it was at SPRING STUDIOS, a multi-floor venue downtown that allowed visitors to also enjoy the rooftop and sunlight that gave an extra sparkle to the venue.

As I walked each floor, I felt the enthusiasm of the buyers and a sense that we are “back to normal” after more than two years of the pandemic. Was happy to see many new faces and companies as well as lots of old friends. Here is what I observed:

• Men’s underwear – not the basic kind, these were lacy and corseted. I observed just one company showing this look for men.
• Skin tones for ALL – inclusion and diversity. This category has expanded in the last several years, and that’s a good thing. One company had skin tones for cup pads.
• Lots of sheer mesh – bodysuits, bras, sleepwear.
• Multi straps and elastics – functional and/or decorative.
• Embroideries are everywhere – on stretch mesh, tulle, cotton and silk. Flowers naturally, but also scenic stories.
• Ribbons – velvet trimming on bras and of course satins.
• Sustainable – organic cottons and laces.
• COLOR – so many gorgeous colors from bright yellows to burgundies and rusts.
• Sequins and shine.
• Feathers and flocking.
• Pleating on gowns as well as bras and panties.
• Trapunto on bodices, robes, bras.
• Laces – eyelash, delicate edges and stretch.
• Filling a need – pretty mastectomy bras.
• Prints – lots of colored graphics and still animal (leopard) because it’s a staple.
• Ruffles here and there.
• Flowers – lots of prints and embroideries.

Check out the following photos for examples of my observations:
