A fixture in intimates for over 30 years, Seth Morris’ journey to President/CEO of Carole Hochman Design Group has been momentous and industry changing.  After Seth graduated from Brown University he went to work for San Francisco-based Determined Production, the master licensee & manufacturer of products for Charles Schulz’ “Peanuts” characters.  This stepping stone lead Seth, in 1983, to join the family business Val Mode as Vice President of Sales. Following a 13 year stretch with Val Mode, the family sold the company in 1996 and Seth’s journey took him to Carole Hochman Design Group. CHDG is a company driven by product, quality, and creativity as well as a forerunner in understanding the power of licensing in the intimates industry. Seth joined the team as Executive Vice President and after 13 years was made their President.  Komar Brands bought CHDG in 2010, and Seth was named President/CEO at the time of the acquisition. Outside of work, Seth’s passion is family and sports.

The 2014 Femmy’s are less than a month away and we wanted to share with you a series of updates about this stellar event whose major purpose is to raise scholarship money for  students of the Lingerie Industry.  So first and foremost, the fashion contest staged by  F.I.T. design finalists each year.  Under the mentorship of Professor Alexandra Armillas, the SAIG committee has re-focused the goals from the ethereal to the practical. This year’s theme “Shaping The Future” is all about modern control shapewear. The six finalists will compete for $10,000 of scholarship money with their designs ranging from very embellished to strappy and sexy, to ultra-minimalist.  But all the contestants have added a fresh young twist.  Professor Armillas coaches them to new levels of technical skills and creativity.  This year they will be asked to demonstrate the practical side of development with attention to costing and production realities using a $400 allowance for materials.  All of the finalists must do this project while completing their full time course load.  Guests will vote at the dinner for first, second and third place on Feb 4 after meeting each student and viewing their creative efforts.

SAIG committee announced that the new theme for this year’s Femmy awards will be “Shaping the Future”.  Work with FIT students is already under way on this exciting new vision with support and mentoring from Professor Alexandra Armillas.

The committee has reviewed 12 original concept boards and voted on their 9 favorites.
”According to Suzanne Beck of the Saig Committee, the concepts ranged from very embellished, to strappy & sexy, to clean minimalist but all with a fresh new young twist.  This year’s contestants have been asked to focus on the more practical side of design. read more
