About the Contest
This is the 19th Annual Student Design Contest sponsored by the Underfashion Club, featuring the work of Intimate Apparel Concentration Seniors at the Fashion Institute of Technology. For many years a part of the Femmy Gala festivities, last year the Contest went virtual, and this is the 2nd year we are hosting it on the Club’s web site.
The semi-finalists were provided with identical boxes of materials and components to be used in the construction of their garments. The contents of the boxes were generously donated by: Komar, Prym Intimates, Regina Miracle, Stretchline Holdings, and Tian Hai Lace. The students also received a stipend to be used for the purchase of additional materials, trims, and dyes.
The challenge for each contestant was to transform their original design into an actual garment through the creative use of what was in the contest box, with at least 75% of the garment constructed using those materials/components.
Special thanks to Michael Kaye, FIT Faculty Mentor and Linda Kestel, Industry Mentor whose counsel was so important to the students from original designs to finished garments.
