2021 Student Design Contest

About the Contest

This is the 18th Annual Student Design Contest hosted by the Underfashion Club, featuring the work of Intimate Apparel Concentration Seniors at the Fashion Institute of Technology. For many years, the contest has been a highpoint of the Femmy Gala, the premiere annual awards event of the Intimate Apparel Industry. With this year’s Femmy cancelled due to the pandemic, the contest has gone virtual.

The students faced numerous challenges to bring their garments to the runway, not the least of which was the securing of the materials (fabrics, lace, components, etc.) There simply would not have been a contest this year without the incredible generosity of the following companies who donated ALL the materials: Klauber Lace, Komar, Prym Intimates, Regina Miracle, Stretchline Holdings, Tian Hai Lace, V Shapes Moulders, and Willy Hermann. Special thanks to Michael Kaye, FIT Faculty Mentor and Linda Kestel, Industry Mentor whose counsel was so important to the students from original designs to finished garments.

How to Vote

Voting for this year’s contest winners will start on April 21st and close on April 28th. Voting is open to all Underfashion Club members in good standing.

By clicking on the image of each garment (below,) you will be able to see and hear from the designers themselves about the development of their garments from the original story boards to various stages of construction through to the final photo shoot.

When you have viewed all six entries, click on this link to select your TOP choice. Choose carefully, only the first vote you cast will be counted!

Winners will be announced on Monday, May 3rd with cash prizes totaling $15,000 awarded as follows: $5,000 for first place, $4,000 for second place, $3,000 for third place, and $1,000 for each of the three other finalists.
