Scholarship

SAIG General Description:

The Underfashion Club's SAIG committee is charged with proactively promoting and advancing the objective of education in order to attract talented individuals to careers in the Intimate Apparel Industry. Through a strategic utilization of Scholarships, Awards, Internships and Grants, the committee promotes awareness among students, educators, and members of career opportunities in the Industry.

Awards General Description:

The awards program is currently under development to increase the awareness of career opportunities within the Intimate Apparel industry. The program will be targeted at both high school and college level students.

Internship General Description:

The committee has developed a program with the Fashion Institute of Technology and the High School of Fashion Industries to provide students with the opportunity to work as interns while pursuing their education. This remains the core of our industry opportunity educational efforts. Internships are available in areas such as design, merchandising, sourcing, public relations and sales with intimate apparel manufacturers and suppliers. In the past, the internships program has been supported by the following organizations:
Bestform Industries Charles Komer & Sons Carole Hochman Design Warnaco
Wacoal Richard Leeds Kellwood Maidenform
Vanity Fair Lunaire Dana & Co.

Upon graduating from the internship program, students earn a Underfashion Club stipend and then are eligible to apply for scholarships to further their fashion education. It is our hope that this effort will result in a new generation of enthusiastic and knowledgeable members of the Intimate Apparel industry.

Grants General Description:

The first Grant recipient, Oregon State University, has developed a resource handbook identifying the ways and means of infusing Intimate Apparel education into exciting undergraduate programs and classes. Another grant recipient, Oklahoma State University, is developing industry-based multimedia presentations (including an interactive CD Rom centering on foundation design) for promotion of the Intimate Apparel industry.

The committee is currently developing an Educator Grant program in order to provide a "real world" educational situation for school teachers and counselors. The program will emphasize the conditions impacting on our industry and thereby help the educators to develop school curricula and programs better focused on preparing the students to meet those challenges.
